Tim Godwin
His Art and Creative Inspiration
About the Art

Tim’s main areas of subject matter are seascapes and townscapes.
Tim’s approach to art is to combine strong colour, texture and composition. The combination produces a calm beauty with an element of playful enjoyment which reflects Tim’s approach to the creative process.
Tim’s Land and Seascapes focus on larger canvases which reflect a large loud approach mirroring Tim’s own enjoyment of life.
Previously working as a Chartered Surveyor Tim has also developed a close affinity to the Urban Landscape, which is reflected in his Urban Abstract paintings where strong composition and texture combine with colour in geometric forms.
The watercolours, mostly of animals, are smaller but retain a playfulness with colour often employing fluorescent colours.
About Tim Godwin

Based on the edge of the Ashdown Forest in the Sussex Weald Tim lives in a perfect location for enjoying runs and walks in the heathland and forest on his doorstep, with the South Coast and South Downs a short drive (or long bike ride) away.
A keen outdoor sportsman Tim has travelled widely across the UK and has developed a particular affinity with Cornwall, The Lake District, Wales and the Peak District, which offer rich subject matter. Family connections with the USA have opened up further opportunities for subject matter, as have frequent trips to the Alps.
Tim studied History of Art at Manchester University, this introduced him to many styles, approaches and influences. His own specialisms ranged from Etruscan Art and Culture to the Northern Renaissance, from Late Medieval Architecture to Italian Renaissance Painting. This experience has led to a broader interest in artistic and visual culture across global history.
Tim’s includes in his influences the colour of the Fauvists, a freedom and light from the Impressionists and a sense of atmosphere from Turner.
